East Asia Area Program Files 1960-1987.

This series comprises records retained by the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) Division for World Mission and Ecumenism's (DWME) Secretary for East Asia. These records date from 1960-1987 and are general subject files pertaining to different aspects of DWME mission work in East Asia and records related to work the DWME did with cooperating boards and agencies in regards to the China Area Advisory Committee (CACC). General subject files include records related to DWME involvement with the Lutheran World Federation, ministry to East Asian immigrants to the United States, theological education in East Asia, the Midwest China Study Center located at Lutheran Northwestern Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota, overseas trips to Asia by church personnel, and general literature requests. Types of records include handwritten and typewritten business correspondence, newsletters, proceedings from consultations, minutes and agenda, topical papers, newspaper articles, promotional and informational brochures, and handwritten notes from meetings, conferences, and consultations. Records in the subseries "East Asia Cooperating Board and Agencies" provide useful information pertaining to the cooperative aspect of the work of the CACC. Several mission boards and agencies and their views on particular aspects on the mission work of the CACC are represented. Also comprising a significant portion of the series are records related to ministering to East Asian immigrants in the United States. The DWME often was consulted on such matters and also was involved when pastors emigrating from Asia wished to work as pastors in the United States.
